The Wheels on the Bus Go…

Aug, 16, 2012

There’s a few great moments all parent’s experience and today was one of those for me. Seeing that Yellow School bus drive away with our kids inside is intoxicating.
We have a family ritual where I put the kids on the bus. I then walk back into our house to absorb the silence. Something I haven’t absorbed since the start of summer break. I then crash on the couch catching up on my sleep like a good adult.
Now, I’ve heard of some parent’s crying while sending their kids off to school and, to be honest, you could’ve seen me crying this morning if you looked hard enough while I was doing those back flips and shouting “Woo Hoo!” over and over.
Of course, back to school also starts our early morning Fall schedule which is as follows. Feel free to copy it:
5:20 Alarm goes off.
5:25, 5:30, 5:35, and 5:40 Alarm goes off.
5:41 Write a note to remember to plug alarm back in wall before night fall.
5:50 Get up.
5:58 Really get up this time.
6:00 Wake kids up.
6:05 Start coffee pot while staring into the abyss.
6:10 Pour coffee into cup and go wake kids up.
6:12 Make kid’s lunches.
6:13 Pour second cup of coffee.
6:15 Let the dog outside and remake kid’s lunches. Write note not to leave lunch where dog can get to them.
6:18 Wake kids up for real this time. (note: remember to fill water bucket back up for next morning)
6:20 Stare down my oldest who is reaching for the last bit of coffee left in the pot.
6:25 Dry kids off and have them get dressed.
6:28 Remind kids to brush their teeth. Talking close to their nose will remind you to go brush your teeth.
6:30 Everyone run out in a panic out the door to catch the bus.
6:31 Wave to kids. Go inside and set timer on stove to remind me to drive their lunches (which they forgot) up to their school before lunch time.
You would think getting up at 5:20 would allow enough time to get everything ready but it never does. Anyway, hope everyone has a great school year!
